Training : Training for Shows: Where Can I Show My Leonberger?

  • LCA (Leonberger Club of America): LCA events are one of the best places to show your Leonberger. Each year, the club puts on a National Specialty with international judges who are familiar with the Leonberger. Obtaining a written critique of your dog at such an event is definitely worth the trip. LCA Regional clubs usually host one or two Regional Specialties each year, bringing in judges that are familiar with giant breeds and how they move.
  • UKC (United Kennel Club): UKC events are very family friendly and a good place to start showing your dogs. Find a UKC club near you and request that the Leonberger be added to the list of dogs that are judged at their local shows. Leonbergers are in the Guardian Group with the UKC. All rules and regulations as well as upcoming events can be found at their website.
  • ARBA (American Rare Breed Association): This club hosts conformation shows specifically for rare breeds all over the country. Visit their website for further details.
  • IABCA (International All Breed Canine Association): This club awards a series of titles affiliated with the Union Cynologie Internationale in Germany and provide written critiques of every dog at each show.
