Puppies : Previous Litters : Kalahari's A-litter : Week One

Red girl is already making her presence known - if she wakes up and there's not a nipple in her mouth within 10 seconds, she screams bloody murder! Green boy is close behind her in that department. Pink girl likes to get her fill and then wander off to a nice secluded spot in the whelping box to sleep it out. All of them like to sleep in the corners or under the pig rails of the box. Another favorite spot is draped over mom's front leg or snuggled up by her tail.

1/22/05: It's Day Three, so rear dewclaws had to be removed today. I only had to take four of the ten pups in, so that was a relief. They were fine and have totally forgotten about the whole incident by now. Deia goes out to potty and then heads right back to the whelping box where she lies down for the pups to nurse for hours on end - I have to get her up to change sides for the nursing pups.

1/25/05: We have started doing the Bio-Sensor exercises with each puppy. This is an early neurological stimulation program performed with each pup through Day 16. Puppies exposed to the Bio-Sensor stimulation exercises have been observed to have improved cardiovascular performance, stronger heartbeats, stronger adrenal glands, more tolerance to stress, and greater resistance to disease. In tests of learning, stimulated pups were found to be more active and were more exploratory than their non-stimulated littermates over which they were dominant in competitive situations.
