Puppies : Previous Litters : Kalahari's A-litter : Birth

Deia's temperature dropped to 98.3 degrees early morning on Tuesday. She spent the rest of the day furiously nesting and trying to dig small dens in our yard - I was keeping a pretty close eye on her, so that didn't get very far. Later in the day, she made the whelping box her own and nested around inside of it.

Around 11:00 PM on Tuesday, she had a gush of straw-colored liquid which meant that a water bag had broken and puppies were imminent. Nothing happened however, and I was on the phone all night with our vet clinic that specializes in reproductive matters. We decided that come morning, if she hadn't whelped a pup, I'd bring her in for a possible c-section.

Well, morning came, and we were at the clinic by 10:00 AM. We decided to proceed with a c-section which resulted in the arrival of ten healthy puppies, six girls and four boys, around noon on Wednesday. Mom and pups are all doing great!
