Leos
at Work :
Therapy Work
Leonbergers
excel at Therapy Work. Their innate fondness of people combined
with their gentleness (a direct result of good training)
make them excellent candidates for therapy work.
The two most
common Therapy Dog certifications are conducted by Therapy
Dogs International and by the Delta
Society. There
are many
other organizations which can
provide you with information on therapy work. Research the
ones in your region to find where you and your Leonberger's
talents can best be put to use.
The Leonberger
Club of America also provides a Leonberger Therapy Award
(LTA) to recognize all Leos and their owners who have made
a significant effort to share their love with others. The
recipients of the award will receive a certificate of recognition,
a letter of congratulations, a 4" patch to be worn
on a therapy vest, and the right to use the initials "LTA"
(Leonberger Therapy Award) after the dog's name.
Dogs eligible
for this award must be over one year of age, have passed
a Canine Good Citizen test after one year of age, submit
a Therapy Registration form, be an active member of any
recognized national, state, or local therapy organization,
and have documented proof of a minimum of 50 therapy visits.
