Leonberger Health

Leonbergers, like most other breeds of dog, have specific health issues that show up in the breed. Many are genetic in origin, and careful breeding guidelines attempt to minimize the incidence of these diseases in our breed. Some manifest themselves early on while others show up much later in a dog's life and/or can be causes of death.

If you are considering a Leonberger, please take the time to educate yourself on the health of this breed, for while we have fewer genetic problems that plague us compared to some other breeds, Leonbergers most definitely are not free from health problems.
