Diet
Generally
speaking, adults and puppies are fed 2-3% of adult body
weight. Puppy food amounts are divided into three meals
a day. We fast our adults one day a week, and a half day
a week for puppies. The supplements we add are listed in
the supplements section also. Please note that these amounts
are for dogs that will become well over 100 lbs.
AM:
-1 cup of cooked (or soaked overnight) oatmeal
-1 cup of ground beef (8 oz) plus 1/4 tsp ground eggshells
(to balance the calcium/phosphorus ratio)
-1/4 cup pureed greens mix (1 part parsley: 1 part cilantro:
2 parts greens)
-1/4 cup canned pumpkin
-1 cup homemade yogurt (live active cultures)
-2 T apple cider vinegar
-1-2 cloves of chopped garlic
-1 400 iu capsule Vitamin E (natural source)
-1 T salmon oil
-1 tsp Berte's Green Blend (available from www.b-naturals.com)
-1 tsp kelp
-1 tsp (2000 mg) Vitamin C
-1 tsp lecithin granules
-1 B-Complex tablet
-Molasses, wheatgerm
-Buttermilk to increase fat content, if necessary
-One full egg with shell three times a week
PM:
-1/2 lb chicken hearts (muscle meat-taurine)
-1/2 lb chicken gizzards (muscle meat)
-1 lb ground backs/legs (50/50 bone to meat ratio)
-1/2 tsp ground eggshells
Once a week: 1 cup of chicken livers per dog in place of
AM ground beef
Once a week: 1 full fast day for adult dogs (over 24m);
half day for under 24m
Once a week: we provide large beef knuckle and marrow bones
for them
Breakdown:
AM meal: ~2 lbs of food (including liquids)
PM meal: ~2 lbs of food (including liquids)
Percentage bone: 10-11%
